linearray 07:01 spent 2 hours finding out you can't call a constructor from a constructor of the same class.
it does compile and it behaves weird
jshanab_wcw 10:01 linearray, that is interesting. I bet if the ctor only referced in it's body, items in the default inializer it would work. The order of initialization rules come into play in this scenario!
linearray 10:01 well I had myClass::myClass(){myClass(5)};
this created the object and destroyed it immediately after
then I changed it to myClass::myClass(int i=5);
now it works
and the internet said that calling the ctor from the ctor only works in c++11
jshanab_wcw 10:01 At first i said, wait, i have done this but I see it did exactly what you told it to that was not tor of ctor it was do something on the stack then trow it away. Sometime I disagree but it seems the computer only does what i tell it. I just have to figure out what I told it to do sometimes
ie myClass::myClass(myClass(5)); Would call the ctor of the int version then the copy ctor of the class would copy it in
well, if you had such overloading defined
someone-noone 10:01 Happy new year :)
jshanab_wcw 10:01 happy New year
Raddy 11:01 Hello everybody.. I need a help..
anyone there...?
jshanab_wcw 11:01 Ask the question.
linearray 11:01 yes
.ask
FireBreathBot 11:01 If you need help, just ask your question and wait for people to come back.
linearray 11:01 even the bot agrees
jshanab_wcw 11:01 I cannot get over the number of people that do that. I wonder if they have their client set up such that they don't see anything unless prefixed with thier name.
linearray 11:01 most of them come from the freenode web client
and probably have never used irc
and expect to be spoken to before they speak
jshanab_wcw 11:01 But they disconnect or are disconnected? after they are replied to and told "go" I've never used the web client. I just run chatzilla in XULRunner
linearray 11:01 I believe they close the browser way before they get the reply
and ping out quite a bit later
jshanab_wcw 11:01 Does anyone make a tool for class diagrams that can collapse/expand classes?
Ah. and I thought I had a short attention span
I really need a class diagram for my code but the number of member functions is so large that it would be a wall poster
dan2 11:01 happy new year everyone
taxilian 11:01 happy new year ya'll
jshanab_wcw: there is a tool for class diagrams built into both xcode and visual studio; dunno how well it does at collapsing things
jshanab_wcw 11:01 The visual studio one crashed on reverse engineer. so bad as to bluescreen and take a week to fix. I was brave enough to try on a second machine and it didn't blue screen but after 4 hours I had to stop it. Not for c++ use ! I am starting on visio, but ug. Maybe i just doxygen it?
taxilian 11:01 lol. wow
I've used the class diagram in vs2010 with FireBreath...
and it worked okay
jshanab_wcw 11:01 I was very surprised how bad VS2010 is. Then i found out they paid over 5K for it and I was floored.
Well, I have upgraded quite a few times since then. I will try on my backup dev box
taxillian. I got that HLS streaming going 1/2 decent and i was thinking that a firebreath plugin that was an HLS client would be an awsome cross platform and cross browser example for us.
taxilian 11:01 heh. if you could put together something like that it'd be more than just a good example
it would probably be used — a lot
you realize that right now the only browser that can consume apple adaptive video is Safari on 10.6 or later?
jshanab_wcw 11:01 I wish I could. I am rather crunched here at work. My boss said I have done wonders for a "one horse show" LOL
taxilian 11:01 =]
jshanab_wcw 11:01 Yup!
So it would be a matter of getting the BasicMediaStream example working. (My xcode crashes) Then add the http part I am familiar with. The trick in my mind is how to take the ts segment files and decode it, would I want to include the live555 so i can demux it? or just do it myself. IE download a file into buffer and split it bt ts headers and concatenate the payload together and once you...
...have a frame send it to the decoder and display. I know most of the bits
The adaptive part of it is almost syntatic sugar and can be added later
taxilian 11:01 to be honest, if I were to help you too much on this project it could be a potential hazard for FireBreath, so I need to mostly stay out of the details
jshanab_wcw 11:01 hazard?
taxilian 11:01 I know too much about how Echostar Advanced Technologies (formerly move networks) does their streaming
which is about 100x better than what Apple Adaptive is
they pioneered the technology and have a patent that could quite likely give Apple and Microsoft a run for their money if they wanted to try to do the legal battle (whcih they don't)
they also use FireBreath for their plugin these days
jshanab_wcw 11:01 Ah. After working with this for a week, my reaction was OMG, this sucks. I like my http protocol better
taxilian 11:01 if I were to make a plugin that could be seen as competing with them it could result in a legal mess that I dont' want to deal with
hey, amackera… long time no see
haven't seen you since hte day you popped in saying we'd be seeing you more…. ;-)
linearray 11:01 you realize he just split/unsplit?
taxilian 11:01 he wasn't here yesterday
linearray 11:01 ok
taxilian 11:01 I hate being sick
linearray 11:01 I pretty much made it
until the next wave of virii comes along
taxilian 11:01 well, I've come to realize that I am now on my second virus
I was sick for a week leading up to Christmas, when my kids and wife got sick, and I thought "wow, I'm lucky it didn't hit me as hard as it hit them"
and hten I got what they had
jshanab_wcw 12:01 taxilian. There seems to be two possible class diagrams. the Visio Reverse Engineer that is hung or still working and the "class diagram" where you drag stuff to the surface to visualize your classes. Unfortuantly it complains about unrecognized types and also does not work. Which one did you use?
taxilian 12:01 I don't have visio installed
jshanab_wcw 12:01 ok, I feel stupid. Maybe I should go back to sleep for a bit. I was dragging the cpp file not the header ROTFL
The visio one finished without crashing, those other 6 cores and 10G of ram help, but the output is useless, found 2 classes out of 100's and didn't find anything other than the name. I can't believe microsoft has gotten away with selling this to buisnesses, it seems like companies would sue for advertising features that don't work. What scares me is if this is the Best available for C++ on...
...windows, and that seems to be the concencus, we are in trouble!
This is NOT Microsft bashing. I don't want people to think I favor one company over the other, just really woried about the Software Engineering industry direction as we head into a new year.
taxilian 12:01 lol
well, you could try the xcode one
jshanab_wcw 12:01 ironically the newestxcode and newest lion have issues. I got my mac xmas week
linearray 13:01 I have the feeling I'm going to skip lion
whenever I see it, vista comes to mind.
jshanab_wcw 13:01 Having limited experiance with recent MAC, I don't know any better, but it seems Snowleopard was pretty nice. Another disturbing trend? There seems to be a new philosophy out there about user interfaces. Even my Droid got an update and they messed up a bunch of apps. What was avail from one screen and some menues is now 5 screens and 1/2 the features. They seem to go exactly the opposite...
...direction I would of
linearray 14:01 taxilian_away: microsoft has won, I give up. I wait until Boost Variadic Macro Data is released... at some point even a stubborn bastard like me has to think about Return On Investment.
jshanab_wcw 14:01 How is the basicMediaPlayer suppose to be used. I am trying on windows as a baseline before trying to fix my mac. I tried addItem with a .avi file both relative and full path
linearray 14:01 not sure if i've ever seen it work, but I would start with audio
jshanab_wcw 14:01 Do we know what it is looking for? avi,playlists,mp4,m3u, etc, wetc, etc?
more importantly, where is it looking for the file!
jshanab_wcw 15:01 FYI, at least for video, must be an .avi and a full path with double slashes in it
A question about the BasicMediaPlayer. The windows version is very very high level, "play a file" If I am gonna be retrieveing frames acros the net with http and displaying the frames, I cannot use this as a template? I haven;t played with the directx graphs in years. Is the mac version similarly high level?
