IRC Nick Time (GMT-7) Message
sarika 00:09 hello
hello
kevin_ 10:09 hello all, - I'm looking to develop a plugin that does a couple of specifc things, which are: 1. from our app url, an exe is installed 2. once installed (without admin rights), the next time user hits Run App button on webpage, plugin looks for exe app and launches it 3. if app not installed, a download is started, with user permission
correction: I am looking for a developer who can do this.
and it would need to work, in some form, on the big three browsers
taxilian 11:09 kevin_: I'd post a request on the firebreath-dev list
most of us (maybe all of us) in here are too busy on other projects
note that Chrome has plans to drop NPAPI, which means an alternate method for chrome will likely be needed in the next year or so. they claim by the end of the year, but it's hard to say if they'll keep to that

kevin_ 11:09 got it taxilian, I appreciate the response
taxilian 11:09 kylehuff might be the best possibility, if he's around
kevin_ 11:09 yes, but he sounds tempermental (huff, ha!)
taxilian 11:09 lol
he is one of few that I know of that has spent time looking at Chrome Native Messaging, which is what you'd need to use in chrome to do what you want if npapi goes away
kevin_ 11:09 cool
cool
except that native mess needs admin rights
taxilian 11:09 yeah
sucks, huh?

taxilian 11:09 =]
kevin_ 11:09 but the alternative 'cooker' that has killed my biz, java web start, is much worse
anyhow, Mr kylehuff, (ha!), if you are around, and interested, my email is [email protected]
taxilian 11:09 hehe
good luck
kevin_ 11:09 thanks, good day to you!
kylehuff 16:09 taxilian: thanks for the referral. FYI, chrome dropped NPAPI circa v35, IIRC.
taxilian 16:09 nope
maybe on linux
but not on mac or linux

I'm running 39 and it still works fine on my mac

kylehuff 16:09 perhaps it was just NPAPI hosted via an extension. You could be right about windows, but I'm fairly certain my extension is kaput in windows too. (I hate windows too much to fire up the VM and check)
I should probably build up a tolerance to windows... I'm going to need a civilian job in about 7 months, I don't think my disdain for windows will bode well for my resume...
taxilian 16:09 lol
I mostly avoid it myself

kylehuff 16:09 you could say I have a fairly violent job, but nothing in my job makes me want to commit acts of random violence more than trying to do the most mundane of tasks in windows...
